Logan Turnpike Trail

Join Us on National Trails Day June 4th!

The Lumpkin Coalition adopted the Logan Turnpike Trail in 2015 for trail maintenance. This Forest Service trail is within the Raven Cliffs wilderness, part of the Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest. The trail intersects the Appalachian Trail at Tesnatee Gap on the Richard Russel Scenic Highway. The route has significant history, dating back to the 1800s. John Muir describes walking the Turnpike in 1867 in A Thousand Mile Walk to the Gulf.

Maintenance efforts usually involve brushing, clearing small blowdowns, and litter collection. The trail is in a designated wilderness area, so no motorized equipment can be used (chainsaws, string trimmers, etc.). These maintenance days are a CoTrails/Lumpkin Coalition/USFS-sanctioned volunteer trails maintenance event.

For 2022, our first event will be on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 4th, 2022. Specific meeting places and times will be posted when finalized prior to the event.
